Hi Forum,

Using Slimserver 6.5 + InguzDSP and I now get "Inguz expired" or something to that effect on the Squeezebox. It used to work so must be a timebomb within InguzDSP as all other components are unchanged.

Anyone knows if this means that InguzDSP stopped working - or if it is just an annoyance? I can't figure that one out (yes, yes I know - listen etc but haven't had time to do that properly and I never know when the expiry thing starts as I'm using a serviced version of Softsqueeze, only ever look at that once a year or so).

Does anyone know why this timebomb is there? Is it a preparation to launch a paid version of InguzDSP? Why else time limit it (I thought we were working within the open software world here).

I don't want to upgrade from my Slimserver 6.5 and I don't particularly want the annoyance of having to watch InguzDSP every so often to re-install things. I just want to listen to my music....

The DSP part of Inguz has always expired at some fixed date. The EULA for the current versions is here:

InguzDSP is only free as in beer (contrary to e.g. SqueezeCenter which is "more" free).

Presently I think that you need to reinstall at least the DSP part of Inguz whenever it expires.

New version available to replace expired version (Thank you Hugh)

I don't know if this is new for this version, but EQ on iPeng is excellent for adjusting settings - find EQ in Extras.

Correct, replace the DSP and it works again.

Last month when it expired a new version was released, but I can't see that there has been any active development other than renewing the time-bomb - I tried to join the forums but apparently signups get referred for human approval (i.e. not automatic) and I have never heard back, despite emails.

So, I expect a new version with updated expiry date will be released shortly.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has tried Inguz/SC on an Intel Atom, whether it's powerful enough.

Hi Forum,
I'm still happily using my Slimserver 6.5 and I really don't want to update the system. My sound is very good as it is, I don't need any new features and i really don't want to be in the upgrade race.

So when Inguz expires, it is very annoying. I've let it expire now as I find it very tedious to go through the hassle with re-installing. Especially since I use software Squeezebox and the filter doesn't show up there (in my old version that is, no clue about newer). I can borrow a hardware SB and it does show there but it is a pain in the *** to do all this when I only want to listen to my music.

Anyway - anyone who knows if Inguz still works with Slimserver 6.5 and no new software installs, should I decide to try yet another re-install?

I'm actually seriously considering to hack the plugin, or just to freeze the clock on my media server as I don't really need time on that dedicated computer...

I'm pretty sure the current version no longer has the expiration date built in. I can't remember the last time that was an issue.

Mine just works.

I also believe that the present version is still backward compatible to Rel 6.x

Anyone know if the plugin can be controlled using Applescript? I have some files that could use different
EQ's.

Thanks,

Carl

OK, thanks to you who tried to help. However, I'm fed up with Inguz and I will just give up now.

Tried installing latest Slimserver (has some other name now but can't be bothered keeping track of the name changes), then latest Inguz. That failed of course, lots of errors. Seems 7.5x and Inguz does not work.

So, downgraded to 7.3something which Inguz claimed to work with.

Now get this in the Inguz log file:
20101201230427: InguzDSP (version 0.9.32) -id 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 -wav -wavo -d 24
20101201230427: 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 Gain -16 dB
20101201230427: 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 Impulse Impulses\strong_direct.wav, matrix (null)
20101201230427: 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 EQ flat
20101201230428: 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 16/44100 PCM => 24/44100 PCM TRIANGULAR, gain -16 dB
20101201230502: 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 Write fault 232: The pipe is being closed
20101201230502: 00:04:20:06:1e:f9 2900643 samples, 34609,375 ms (578,125 init), 1,8781 * realtime, peak -22,8542 dBfs

Apparently others have had it too. Maybe some more up/downgrades will work maybe not, but I'm not going to mess with this anymore.

My system worked fine until Inguz' stupid time bomb hit it about 1-2 years ago. I can't be in the hands of such unstable software so I'm going to be happy with the music as it is without EQ and next time I will go for a hardware solution instead. One that doesn't expire, or want license fees or anything like that. Once I've bought it, it's mine and it works.

Thanks for trying to help me though. Slimserver is fantastic, I just don't want all the bells and whistles (Staff Picks....who cares what the staff at Logitech listens to) so I will try to stay with my old-ish version.
