Incidentally, how do you get back to normal play after a fast
forward.....I've tried and ended up being frustrated. Do you press play, oe

The Squeezebox manual says that one can fast forward (or reverse)
through a track by pressing and holding the Forward button. This
isn't entirely true, and I thought it was worth giving more precise
information. I've collected this from various posts on the list, but
if I've got it wrong feel free to correct me.

1. This only works on files that aren't transcoded as they are
playing. So it will work for MP3, and not (at present) for FLAC, etc.
For WAV and AIFF see point 2.

2. By default WAV and AIFF files are transmitted directly to a wired
Squeezebox but are transcoded to 320kbps MP3 on a wireless
connection. You can ensure direct playback (if your network bandwidth
can take it) by going to SlimServer, Additional Server Settings, File
Types, and unchecking the AIFF (or WAV) to MP3 lines.

3. Pressing and holding Forward fast forwards at 2x original speed.
Each time you press and hold the scanning speed doubles. You can go
up to at least 128x, which can be useful if you want to find aplace
midway in a two-hour radio program you have recorded.

Pressing play should do it, but the official releases aren't totally reliable
with it. Nightly builds are better, but not perfect.
