I'm willing to test 5.2 also. I have a 300mhz Celeron with 384MB of RAM and
a library consisting of about 3700 VBR MP3 files. The server has always run
pretty well on that box, only consuming about 40MB of RAM and using up about
10-20% CPU when streaming to both my squeezebox and my slimp3 unit.

Subject: [slim] firmware requirements to test 5.2 pre-release

the current nightlies are pre-release for 5.2. Extra
time is being taken to let it be tested out fully by any users who want to
try
it out. This way, as many of the bugs as possible can be worked out before
an
official release. Ideally, 5.2 can server users for a long time, but we
need
people who are willing to give it a workout and point out any deficiencies.

I'm willing to test the 5.2 pre-release server, but I'm not
in a hurry to test the v2x firmware, as it was announced to be
unable to be back fitted to earlier releases.

What is the status of using V10 firmware with the rest of the nightly
builds?
Or are the V22/23 firmware required?

And if the cvs/nightlys can be tested with V10,
what needs to be to be done to make sure we don't accidentally
trigger the upgrade cycle?

Thanks

A tiny bit off topic but since this seems to be somewhat
of a 5.2 testing thread: Is there a rough timetable for
how long we will have to test pre5.2? I ask since I
am keen to get one of the latest nightlies and help
and would like to see a nice stable 5.2 production release.
To that end I hope the community will have a week or two
to put it through it's paces. If, on the other hand, 5.2
is going to be released in a few days it may not be worth
the effort for some of us to rush out and get testing if bug
fixes will be 5.2.1 material anyhow.

I believe at this point, it is set to take as long as it takes. As long as the
bug reports come in daily, the testing will continue :) The main idea was to
take a break from adding a bunch more features and focus on stomping bugs.

Thanks; that's what I was hoping to hear.
