Usually I like to wait until an "official" release
before I install an update. Is the exe version the
Windows installer version?

yes, it is. If it helps, the current nightlies are pre-release for 5.2. Extra
time is being taken to let it be tested out fully by any users who want to try
it out. This way, as many of the bugs as possible can be worked out before an
official release. New features from this point will be post-5.2. Ideally, 5.2
can server users for a long time, but we need people who are willing to give it
a workout and point out any deficiencies.

That's right.

I understand if you'd prefer to wait until an official release is out,
but the latest nightlies are getting pretty solid and are arguably more
robust than the previous official release.
