Subject: [slim] Low bitrate wav conversion

I generate some low bitrate wav files on-the-fly and then send a url
pointing to them to the player and it doesn't play correctly. If the file
is played from the local file system of the player, it works.

Issues -

1. It would be great if wav files would simply play natively regardless
of their bitrates.

2. It seems that the convert.conf doesn't operate on files that are
referenced by urls.

3. It would be nice to only run a conversion of files below a certain
bitrate.

(This is all for my little speech to slim home automation software that I'm
working on.)

Thanks - Mike

Can you describe the files a little more clearly? I assume that by
"low bitrate" you also mean "low sample-rate". Currently, SlimServer
and Squeezebox only support 44.1k sample rate WAV and AIFF files.

It should, at least for file: and http: URLs. Can you give an example
URL?

It should do this with the latest nightly releases.

One workaround would be to generate full fidelity WAV files or use MP3
to compress them.

I think when this was asked before, this wasn't necessarily the cas. The latest
nightly builds certainly should.

it seemed to me like the request is to convert files that are lower than a
minimum. Right now, we only down-convert files that are above a maximum.
