Hi,

is the slimserver able to extract the genres from an iTunes library. I just
ripped a few CD's with iTunes and imported them in the library with the Apple
lossless compression scheme. I find the files in the slimserver but the genre
that I can see in iTunes is not visible on the slimserver.

Humm, weird it works for some discs and not others... I have 2 discs that
show "Jazz" or "R&B" as genre in iTunes and in slimserver they have no genre,
but I also have one disc that shows "Alternative & Punk" in iTunes and it is
correct in slimserver. I used the same method to import them.

Hi,

I have now ripped 11 discs and in iTunes they are distributed accross 6
genres. I slimserver only 2 genres are visible covering 6 discs, all the other
discs are in "no genre". What happened to the other genres?

Michel,

What version of SlimServer are you using?
What operating system?
Are you using iTunes to import your music or are you specifying a music
folder?

Hi Dean,

I am using XP Pro SP1 with slimserver 5.1.6 nightly from this week-end.
I "told" iTunes that the "iTunes Music" folder was D:\iTunes Music (i.e. moved
it away from my profile) and then I entered that path in slimserver.

..... and then I indeed use iTunes to import my CD's into this folder. In iTunes
I can see all the genres properly but in slimserver I only see 2 of them.

Hi Dean,

It works now, I changed the settings in the server setting to "Use Itunes",
before I was only specifying the music folder. Since I have set it to "Use
Itunes" I find all the genres. I must admit that I did not see this setting
before... my mistake. Without this setting, some genres were visible but most
were not. Funny enough, when I manually edited the name of one of these genres
in ITunes (changing the name of the genre) they became visible in slimserver!
Reverting back to the original name... and again they were invisible in
slimserver. Anyway... it now works fine with the setting "Use Itunes".

Cheers,
Michel
