    Controller Dropping Connections

    Hi Folks

I have not been happy with my Squeezebox for a long time now. I would NOT recommend it to anyone. It causes me nothing but problems, but unfortunately, I'm stuck with it. If I could sell it without taking a bath, I would dump it in an instant.

With that all being said, my biggest problem is the controller - I have 2 receivers, which are controlled by the 1 controller. For some reason, my controller at different times will disconnect, turn itself off, turn itself on, and all sorts of other things. I purchased a new router last week hoping it would clear up the problem - it's great listening to an internet radio station for 20 minutes and then just hearing silence - the longest I've had continuous music playing for is about 5 hours.

I've been examining my router logs, and keeping getting these error messages back on the MAC address which is associated with the controller

[INFO] Mon Jan 26 19:25:05 2009: Wireless system with MAC address xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication
[INFO] Mon Jan 26 19:24:55 2009: Wireless system with MAC address xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx associated

Does anyone have any thoughts on what is going on?

My controller is still under warranty - I am almost to the point of sending it in to be checked out cause I'm tired of these dropped connections.

The Controller disconnecting should not cause the Receiver to stop playing music. It would just stop your ability to control it.

Does your router allow you to assign static IPs by MAC address? If so, I would try that to start.

There are many more troubleshooting suggestions in the wiki.

Why do people feel the need to prefix there help requests with this type
of whining? Is that supposed to make the people who freely offer their
      assistance feel better?

I suppose I'm whining so that someone else doesn't make the same mistake in purchasing a product that doesn't deliver what it should.

          Bad experience with internet radio

Based on my experience with internet radio (Last-FM) during the last few months I would not classify squeezebox-duet as a commercial product. There are endless problems with connection, time-out, stability, software etc. At best you can consider it as some kind of beta version which still has a long way to go before it can be considered a finished product. I am really glad that I kept my old FM radio as back-up.
If you are just looking for a good stable radio source you should go somewhere else.
