kdf,

Okay, now it's telling me that it's not a valid RPM.

It may be the source code...here's the filename:

perl-5.8.0.88.src.rpm

....and you can tell I'm new to Linux!

Thats a source code RPM, used for installing just source code for developing
your own stuff.

You might find a proper perl rpm from rpmfind.net, or by using the upgrade tools
included with Redhat.

Did you try the browser cache or skin changes?

running manually using /usr/local/slimserver --d_http might show something in
the debug messages that may help give a better clue as to what is happening.
