The ITunes Update plugin appears to be creating a .tmp file every time SC plays a track. ITunes gets updated (last played info etc) only when the next track plays and the tmp files do not get deleted, creating a space problem for me until I delete them. Anyone with any clues to why it is behaving this way?

I am running SC ver 7.3.1 -24372 on Win XP SP3

thanks,
JK

It's certainly not the plugin creating them itself, but it may be a side effect of interacting with iTunes over the COM interface.
I get the same problem but definitely not one .tmp file every time a track is played, it's more like one every day.
Hence I always used to think it was caused by the library rescan...

I noticed this as well, I linked up my iTunes library to SC for the first time to test the new album artwork functionality in 7.3 and then noticed that there was a lot of tmp files created. I'm running pretty much the same set-up as you.

Interested in getting some more views on this

Ian

Good answer, i think u are right, maybe it only happens when the rescan is running and I am playing music. Today i played some tracks while rescan was not running and i watched the itunes folder and I could see the .tmp file created, see the itunes library file updated and then the .tmp deleted. SO maybe its the rescan. I will test that theory.

Ian, are you using the iTunesUpdate plugin?

I'm not 100% sure TBH, I linked my windows Squeezecenter (I dual boot with Linux) to iTunes last week so it picks up the library/artwork - when I was backing up the iTunes files i noticed the temp files

Is this the plugin or is that something different ?

Ian

ps Am at work so can't verify set-up for certain

Thanks Ian, doesn't sound like you are using the iTunesUpdate plugin.
However, I believe the library scan in 7.3 now uses COM to get the artwork from iTunes...
