I am considering purchasing a used older SqueezeBox unit. I currently own a SqueezeBox 3 Classic.

Will the older SqueezeBox models 1 and 2 also work using SqueezeCenter 7.3.1?

Do all three models offer the same features when connected to the latest SqueezeCenter (other than their displays being different)?

Does the latest remote control design also work for the older models?

Thank you for your help.

All SB work with latest code. But the SB1 are missing some key features,
IHMO. Specifically, they can't do FLAC natively, and its 11b only. If
all of your tunes are mp3, you won't notice.

The SB2, SB3, and classic models are all fully functional

Yes.

The Squeezebox2 is functionally equivalent to the SB3 (Classic), with all the same features. The only real difference is the case and the internal antennae of the SB3. You might want to pass on the Squeezebox 1, which has a much smaller audio buffer and plays fewer audio formats natively.

The Controller? Yes.

Pat and Jim, thank you very much for your answers to my questions. Since I do use FLAC files, and audio quality is important to me, I will pass on SqueezeBox 1.

For future reference, here is the hardware comparison page from the Wiki:

*all* players with with the latest code.

You might find, as I did, that SB2 is preferable to SB3, as:
(a) you can fit a (bigger) external antennae = better Wifi connectivity,
(b) much cheaper (from eBay!), and
(c) better form factor (for my installations, anyway)
(d) - maybe you even would like a choice of body colours....!

Functionally, SB2 is exactly the same as SB3.
