My bet is that until SC can stream ALAC, fast-forwarding or rewinding ALAC files ain't gonna happen. Unfortunately, I don't think there are plans for the SB's to be able to stream ALAC as a native format so...

From Bugzilla - http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=571

Seek support is limited to specific source file/stream types:-

* local files:
o WAV - only when transcoded to FLAC, which is the default,
o MP3 (with or without further transcoding),
o FLAC (with or without further transcoding),
o Ogg (with or without further transcoding),
o Wavepack (always via transcoding);

Note that seek support for local WMA files has not been added and is
unlikely to be (patent issues).

The transcoding framework allows transcoders to be configured with seek
capability for arbitrary formats. The list above represents the default

* remote streams (only fixed-length streams - podcasts and the like, not
live streams or streams of undetermined duration), dependent upon support by
the remote server (stream source):
o MMS/WMA (strictly speaking,
o Rhapsody.

I don't know if ALAC transcoding can be configured and just hasn't or not.

There have been quite a few bugs that relate to this issue, and they all link to each other. Some are closed, some marked as duplicate, so it's hard to work out what the current thinking on this is, but I believe that linked bug is the best source of information.

No specific plans to look at this in the near future.

So should I interpret this as this IS a bug and WILL be fixed, or not?

It is not a bug, it is an enhancement request. No work is currently scheduled for this enhancement request.
