David,

I experienced the same problem, not using iTunes, just plain MP3s.  I posted a question about it but didn't see any traffic on the question.  I think it's a bug that hasn't been addressed yet.

Hi,

I’m getting problems with tracks skipping\dropouts, it happens fairly regularly (when playing a playlist of around 40 tracks it will happen at least once) and not always on the same tracks, if I go back to the start of the track it plays through fine, anyone else experiencing this? I’m using slimserver 5.1.5 on XP but it also happened with 5.1.1 (firmware v10).  I’m using iTunes, but not sure if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Scott,

Is this with a wired or wireless setup? If it's wireless, is it
possible that you are getting significant dropouts in your wireless
connection?

Hi, I've been getting some dropouts as well. It happened with 5.1.1, 5.1.4 and 5.1.5. I think its related to the actual MP3 itself. I've been slowly re-encoding bad and questionable (as reported by EncSpot) files. The problem seemed to get a bit better. Here's the original post on the subject:

Hello,
I've had this issue with my SB where it will stumble on a song and then go
silent. The box emits some audible chirps and will sometimes play again
unassisted. Most often, I need to intervene by skipping to the next song,
or back one song. Strange, but if I replay the troubled MP3, it works fine.
It's almost as if the decoder in the SB gets confused and cant sync up
again. I'm running nothing else on the server box. CPU usage remains at a
low (<5%) level during the dropouts.

- Running "slim -d_info -d_http >> log.txt" I get no errors in the log file
(other than the moodlogic stuff). The server keeps happily sending packets
to the SB as normal

- Using the "Show Buffer Fullness" option reveals no lack of data either.
The indicator remains full.

- Running iperf (a network performance tester http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ ) shows a consistent 80-90 Megabits from server to switch during testing for about 12 hours. I know the network is robust now.

Here's my system config:

Intel P4 1.8 Ghz
1 GB PC3200 RAM
Music Drive: Western Digital 60GB UDMA100
OS: Win XP Pro SP1
Powersave Mode: Always On
NIC: RealTek RTL8139/810x
NIC Driver: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. 5.611.1231.2003
Router: Linksys BEFW11S4
Router Firmware Version: 1.50.10
Switch: D-Link DSS-5+
Net Config: Slimserver > NIC > Router > 30 meters Cat5 > Switch > Squeezebox
SlimServer 5.1.1
Squeezebox Firmware v8
Content: Old MP3's mostly 128Kbps Some VBR Lame
Reciever: Sony STDR-935 Analog In
