I see in the on-line shop the squeezebox classic signature edition with the description.."The last of the original Slim Devices Squeezeboxes". Does this mean SD are phasing the classic out, and if so, what is the replacement? I have a couple of Duets, a couple of classics, and 6 Slimp3/SB1/2 vintage that I'd probably refresh with classic style over next 12 months .. I like the display.. will this style of player still be an option in the future?

They shouldn’t! It’s just the »perfect« box for some setups.

What I really believe is that the signed editions are just the last ones with the original »slim devices« logo on the front (it’s »Logitech« now). These are going to be real collector’s items soon ;-)

Is it not just that future production of the Squeezebox is now branded "Logitech"?

Edit: Snap!

No, I doubt this is the end of the Classic any time soon. They probably just found a small pile of Slimdevices branded Classics instead of the current Logitech branded ones.

Or a small pile of SlimDevices face plates :)

If anybody is really desperate for an original Slim Devices faceplate, I have a couple or three NOS. Make me an offer ...

(If you offer high enough, I'll promise not to sign it!)

hah, i though the same thing until I read the fine print.

It's the end (much delayed) of the Slim Devices branded units is all.

They must have hid this batch hidden somewhere, since they've been shipping Logitech branded units for ages.

They could have been planning this for aaaaaagggggeeeessss too, just never got around to actually signing them all until now. Too busy with Boom and 7.2 then 7.3 perhaps? :)

Perhaps its just a creative way to drum up some additional sales during these poor economic conditions.

I'd imagine that the slim devices team is feeling some pressure to move product. It's not easy being in a "non essential" division of a large tech company.

I went through this with Intel. If you weren't part of the core business and weren't contribuing a signficant amount of revenue to the bottom line, you worried for your survial when times got tough. We had nothing to do with making CPUs, so ultimately the division I worked for was sold off and subsequently downsized.

The slim devices team isn't making mice or keyboards, so...

Snarly wins the prize... that's exactly what happened.

Personally I like Jademonkee's thinking

LOL yeah ...

Want to see how this is evolving (the product, the business concept, AND the fun inhouse).

So, okay, I promise to buy an additional Squeezebox Controller in Q1, 2009. *grin* (This year's christmas SB3 is already on the way, hopefully.) [EDIT: Actually just put that into my 43 folders ...]

Try it! Gives you such a warm feeling, knowing to support the good old SlimDevices business unit, and some employees that really deserve it. :-)

(Wonder if Logitech thinks about sending out nice little Christmas & Appreciation Cards for the rest of us, hee hee.)

Well I would happily buy a signed SB3, but I'm in the UK so it's a little difficult. I don't even need one, I already have more players than rooms in my appartment!
