Got the email earlier about Deezer, but on my devices (2 SB3's, 2 Booms against SC 7.2.1) it doesn't appear in Music Services. Is there a new version of SC required for this to appear?

Cheers,

Tom

I just got that email too. It wasn't clear at all.

I'm guessing that it's only available through SqueezeNetwork, which the mail, or web page it references mentions at all. You have to set up a deezer account (guess the url is www.deezer.com), then log into SN and add that account. You can then play music via a squeezebox when connected to SN.

I've updated to the latest SC v7.3, and SC doesn't display Deezer in Music Services.

Cheers - might be an idea to put that info on the web site as it's not mentioned anywhere... that is, of course, unless 7.3 is coming out so soon it doesn't matter. :-)

It's compleatly unusable here in France. It starts to buffer, gets up to 5%, then returns to 1% and so on.

Pile of poop...

That's strange, here in the Netherlands it works. Only unlike the website where you can select the song of a selected artist, I can only select an artist after which I can play smart radio which is an artist style radio "pandora style".

Haven't yet had a chance to try this out, but it's nice to have a reminder every now and then why this is a great company to buy products from.

Not a bad turnaround time (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37820&highlight=deezer) given all the problems Deezer had on startup with the regulators. I'm sure there must be examples of other companies (on the same size and scale as LogiSlim) that take user feedback this seriously, but I'm struggling to think of any right now.

So thanks guys.

Someone at work just showed me Deezer for the first time yesterday, so that's some good work getting it on the SqueezeBox!

I'll give it a go now!

Agree fully. Although slightly OT, how many companies these days still support the first product they released *years* ago (SliMP3). And not many companies offer products that are continuously upgraded and enhanced via firmware either - most see this as an opportunity to force the customer to buy a new product.

So what the deal with this Deezer then? i have never seen it before now. But at first glance this seems to just be like lastFM's similar artists radio feature. Am i missing something?

the issue is always the same.

I would like to have a choice of artist AND album/track, and it seems deezer does not offer that, but only a streaming feature, like Last.fm or Pandora.

The interesting thing is, that Deezer allows one to browse and play the library by artist, album and track if you access it from the web. Why has this not been implemented in Squeezecenter? I really would like to have a european version of Rhapsody - we have all been clamouring for this for a very long time, and many have jumped the gun and moved to the sonos platform.

regards,

Giacomo

Am I missing something? I thought Rhapsody was only available in the US whether you jump the gun or not?

Yes, but the Sonos supports Napster - which is the same type of service, only a bit better and available in Europe (i dont understand is why Rhapsody dont do a UK service if Napster can).

Thats a very good question, i have just been playing with Deezer site and it offers a lot more - in fact it's pretty much a cut down free version of Rhapsody/Napster. Are we going to see full functionality with the Squeezebox, or are there some kind of restrictions with the API or due to licensing etc?

Don't get me wrong, i am very excited to see new services being supported, but unless we have full artist/album streaming it's kind of pointless.

Sorry, should have made my point more clearly - indeed I was implicitly referring to the Napster service available to Sonos users. Tried to convince a couple of friends to get a slimdevices product, they ended up buying a Sonos. Pity, of course - we could have shared libraries over the net (not sure Sonos supports this).

I will subscribe to "pointless", even if it sounds a tad harsh...

One would immediately think of an API limitation. Could anyone comment/correct us if wrong?

Finally, does anyone know what the compression used by Deezer? 128? 192?

Giacomo

Sorry, yes "pointless" was harsh actually, i wish i had not used that word in hindsight - it's not pointless and i am sure there will be existing Deezer users who will enjoy this, it will also introduce people to the Deezer service (i just signed up). But basically there is nothing to tempt me from Last.FM, which is much better.

Now if i could only have the level of control over whats playing as i have on their website, this would seriously kick ass :)

BTW, Deezer is 128kbps CBR MP3.

Cheers for your ongoing efforts developers :)

Did anybody, when they signed up, actually read the conditions of use? Or as Deezer puts it 'conditions d'utilisation'. I'm clicking on the link at the bottom of the registration form and all I get is a long essay in French to translate. Beats putting things in small print!

I'll try out Deezer once 7.3 comes out. One thing I was wondering... If I'm playing tracks through Deezer on my Squeezebox, will the track info get scrobbled back to last.fm?

Mine isn't - there's an option somewhere to set whether internet radio tracks get scrobbled, I seem to remember setting mine to No.

I tried it in SC 7.3 this morning. The integration works quite nicely.

However, I was disappointed with the Deezer service itself. There's not a wide range of choice in the provided radio stations. I searched for "Pink Floyd" and played the smart radio. The first track played was Pink Floyd, but soon after it jumped to Guns'N'Roses! A few tracks later it played another G'N'R song, and then again after that.

I looked at the related artists. This revealed a small list of 10 artists - not a massive set of similar artists; missing quite a few obvious choices I'd expect to see.

However, I searched for other artists, and got 10 similar artists back each time, so perhaps this is a limit imposed via the SC plugin or the Deezer API? Searching again for the same artist returned the same 10 hits.

I've had much better experience with Last.fm.

Me too. But the artwork is better on Deezer :-)

I've installed the latest 7.3 and don't see it at all. Did you have to do something to enable it?

Yes. But only with today's 7.3 build.

Yes. You probably need to create an account and add it into SqueezeNetwork before the service is visible.

I notice that when I go to song information, there's an option "On Deezer", but this doesn't seem to do much - anyone else had any luck?

Oops, the On Deezer context menu wasn't supposed to be included. I've removed it.
