Is there a way to save the same 'digital stream' that is being played on
a Slim Player (Squeezebox or SliMP3) in any easy format - ideally mp3 .
I know I can attach WinAMP this way but then I can't control WinAMP
as a Slim player eg to navigate & select a plugin to play an internet stream
(that is possibly being transcoded). The only control for Winamp is via the
web interface. I tried synching WinAMP to a Slim player this way but that
didn't work (I wasn't worried about the buffer latency).

Using XP ;-)

Maybe a combination of a Softsqueeze sync'd to your hw player and one of the
stream grabbers that installs as an audio driver - Replay Radio srpings to
mind.

www.replay-radio.com

Haven't tried it.
