Which is odd as my hifi dealer immediately said the coax was better!

Probably true. I have my doubts if anyone can really tell the difference
whatever.

It would almost always depend on which style of cable had the greatest markup at
the time. The quality of a cable is directly proportional to teh commission a
dealer can make on the sale of said cable.

There will always be people who can. Thus, there will always be Monster Cable,
ready and waiting to take your $100+ for each cable :)

It is one thing to have the bits correct but the timing must also be perfect...
jitter is an issue.
