Somebody give me the low down - I am trying to play .m4a files (AAC and stuff) through SqueezeCentre (latest version). I use SqueezeCentre and then connect to the stream file with WMP at work. Is this possible, what needs to be done?

SqueezeCentre is running on my Mac with iTunes of course.

Quick, dirty and not massively secure guide here...

...others may be able to advise on doing this with SSH etc.

Eh, it's not that..I listen to my music fine, but some of the albums I have ripped are in .m4a file format, which SqueezeCentre does not play.

On WinXP you need LAME and Quicktime to play and remote stream m4a files. Quicktime to transcode to FLAC on the fly (to stream locally), and then LAME to transcode to mp3 for remote streaming, or to stream to wireless mp3 players (Nokia tablets, cell phones etc).

What about Linux? I used to have it working after manual editing of
custom-config.conf, but it broke in one of the upgrades over the past month
or two. I can't even figure out where the config files are supposed to be
now.

You could try the following link for linux:
