View Full Version : Artwork from iTunes -- Why So Hard??

HI, new forum member here.

I've had the Squeezebox Duet for only a few weeks, and have everything working fine except for the album artwork. I've searched through these forums and trolled Google multiple times, but without success.

I use iTunes to rip discs in Apple Lossless. iTunes is set up so that the Library.xml file, the Album Artwork folder, and all of the music folders are in the same folder on an external hard drive. Most of the discs have associated album art.

SqueezeCenter is set to look in this directory, and for playing music there's no problem; artwork simply doesn't show up. A few tweaks have me to the point where scanning the music library +does+ include an Artwork Scan, which seems to have all 284 out of 284 that it should. Why don't they show up?

From what I've read, there's seems to be a conflict b/w the way iTunes stores things and the way SC wants them. (Given how many people use iTunes, couldn't Slim Devices integrate better...?) It seems like there's no easy fix, and I will have to do things manually. That's fine if that what it takes, but I can't even find a clear description of a manual method. (I'm running Windows XP, btw.)

Can someone either point me in the right direction, or give me a plain-English ("Step 1, Step 2, etc...") tutorial in getting SC to retrieve album art?

Thanks much,
Ryan Tranquilla

iTunes Artwork is supported in SC 7.3. Try a nightly.

Thanks, Andy. I've installed 7.3 and am rescanning the library.

I appreciate the quick response.

I realize that 7.3 is still in beta, but I'm about to give up....

A rescan included successful imports of Artwork, iTunes Downloaded Artwork, and iTunes User-Added Artwork.

None of which actually shows up in SC.

Seeing things show up in the scan makes me think I'm just missing one little piece, but maybe it's more complicated than that. Should I just wait until the official release of 7.3? I've already spent too long this morning trying to figure this out; it's the completed "iTunes Downloaded Artwork" that frustrates me...I feel so close.

Thanks,
Ryan

CoverScout is hardly free.

They've just come out with a much improved version 3.0, but it only works with Mac Leopard.

The best way to have artwork displayed is to embed the artwork into each individual track. CoverScout can do this in several ways.

I have a Lossless library of almost 1700 CDs. Downloading artwork from iTunes covered about 1100. There is a command that copies that artwork to the individual track.

You can use program to search Amazon or Google for the rest.

There is no easy way.

I do have a Mac. Coverscout is not difficult. I have over 26,000 tunes and except for some of my very old "oldies" it copied every cover that I wanted. You do not have to pay anything, its a free download
