Since the 7.2 upgrade my alarms always seem to use a random playlist, even though a specific playlist has been defined.

Any ideas?

The configuration is an SB1, with Squeezecenter 7.2 running on Centos5.2. AlienBBC and Superdatetime are the only plugins installed. There are also two other SB1's and an SB2 in the configuration.

The alarm settings from server.conf are below:-

If the playlist fails to play then alarm will fallback onto the Random selection.

Are you sure the playlist works ? there were some issues in 7.2.0 with pls files and some Linux distributions (mainly NAS).

If the playlist works in normal time - could there be a problem at the time the alarm goes off (e.g. broadband disconnect if idle and so delay in startup)

The playlist definitely works, as it's used regularly, and in some cases I'll run the playlist manually just a few seconds after the alarm goes off. But the playlist can have a 30 to 40 second start time. It's also worth noting that this worked correctly in versions before 7.2.

FWIW this is the current version of the playlist:-

[playlist]
NumberOfEntries=3
File1=http://wnycfm.streamguys.com/
Title1=WNYC 93.9 FM
File2=http://wnycfm2.streamguys.com/
Title2=WNYC 93.9 FM
File3=http://wnycfm3.streamguys.com/
Title3=WNYC 93.9 FM
Version=2

At a guess - I think the alarm code has a timer and if the preferred playlist doesn't connect within a time limit - it fallsback to random playlist.

Thank you for the hint.

The following is at line 571 in Utils/Alarm.pm:

# Set a callback to check we managed to play something
Slim::Utils::Timers::setTimer($self, Time::HiRes::time() + 20, \&_checkPlaying);

It looks like there is a verification that the playlist actually worked. Unfortunately it's hard-coded to 20 seconds.

I've upped it to 60 seconds, and we'll see what happens tomorrow.

You should also make sure that Settings/Advanced/Network/Radio station Timeout is also set to a reasonable value.
