View Full Version : Sub connection question

I have a sub that uses RCA connectors to connect to the source - obviously the Boom uses a 3.5mm cable. Can I just buy a cable that converts from 3.5mm to RCA in order to connect these, or do I need something else in between?

Thanks!

Nope, that should work just fine.

Forgive the probably naive question (and likely filled with incorrect terminology), but how does that work - the 3.5mm jack is stereo for headphones, right? So, if you get a 3.5mm to RCA adapter (which should be mono), shouldn't it matter which of the 3.5mm channels gets used? Is it a standard thing for 3.5mm to RCA adapters to always use the "tip" or the "sleeve" signal, so the Boom knows where to send the LFE data? Or does switching to subwoofer output mode simply send that LFE data as both left and right channels on the 3.5mm output, so no matter what you do, the signal finds it's way down that RCA terminated cable?

Just curious.

Nope, when you're in sub-out mode, the signal is mixed to mono for both
channels.

I'm doing exactly this and it works great.

I added it to the Boom FAQ here:
