I m trying to buy a Boom even if buying here in Italy does not seem easy!
What I wonder is if s better to listen to mp3 or flac files.
I mean ... can i appreciate the difference beetween Flac and Mp3 using BOOM ?
Thanks
Gianni

It really depends on *your* ears and to some extent on the music you're listening to. I'm sure I can't tell the difference between high bitrate MP3 and FLAC on a Boom, but I still keep my collection in FLAC. You only want to rip your tracks once, so it's usually best to do it in a lossless format. Some day you might want to listen to those tracks on a seriously high-end system, and you won't regret it if they're in FLAC.

Yea, I give basically the same advice. Even if I can't tell the difference between a good high bitrate mp3 and a FLAC file, it's worth ripping to FLAC simply so that you have an archival copy that can be converted to other formats like ogg, or m4a.

Yep, agreed. High bitrate mp3 is quite good, but if you're ripping
any new music, its a good idea to rip to flac, then convert to other
formats needed by other players.

On the other hand, its kind a of hassle to do the conversions, so high
biteate mp3 maybe your best bet. Set your encoder to 192 or higher.

Do easy to use flac to xyz encoders exist?

Lots of people here use Robin Bowes' flac2mp3.

Robin's script is great, I've used it for 99.8% of my collection, but for that last 0.2% I've used dbpoweramp (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/). foobar2000 also converts formats easily.
