View Full Version : Selecting "All Songs" in the album list only plays the first song (repeatedly)...

This has been an ongoing glitch since I first purchased my SB3. None of the SlimServer / SqueezeCenter upgrades have fixed it, nor has reading the manual.

What would cause only the first song to play when choosing "All Songs" from the album list within any artist? I can scroll through the list of songs and they are all there, but when I hit "play" I either get the first song repeated indefinitely (if repeating the playlist) or it plays the first song and stops (if not repeating the playlist).

What am I doing wrong?

If you go to the Settings screen in the SC7 web interface and select the Player tab, and then select "Basic Settings" from the drop down you should see a setting near the bottom of the page for "Play other songs..." which will toggle the two choices.

Been there, done that... No change in either SB3 behavior... :(

Maybe a long shot, but worth a try:

In the music library tab, there is a setting to list all songs for an album or artist, or only limiting these.. my guess is that if you limit it to a genre, and you happen to browse to your artists or albums based on the genre, and the genre of the first song on the album is different to the other songs, then this might occur...

note the number of assumptions made :)

Made the changes to no avail...

Additional observations: When choosing the "All Songs" from the album list and then scrolling in the "Now Playing" list on the SB3, all the songs appear to be there. If, however, I check the player in question in the SqueezeCenter interface, it shows only the first song from the list in the playlist... If I then pick the artist and choose "All Songs" in the SqueezeCenter interface, it loads all the songs to the playlist, not just the first one.

Why isn't SqueezeCenter loading "All Songs" and choosing only the first one when the "All Songs" option is chosen from the SB3?

Anyone? Help?

Do I understand it correctly that from the squeezebox you select the first song from the album, and that then plays repeatedly? or do you select the album, and then press play?

It should not make a difference if you have "play other songs..." option to "yes"... but does it make a difference?

Not quite... ;)

On the SB3: Power On > Music Library > Artist > "Artist Name" > "All Songs"

This gets me the first song only (which repeats if I have the "repeat playlist" option activated). I can scroll through the playlist and it shows the additional songs from the chosen artist on the SB3, but will only play the first one.

If, however, I pull up SqueezeCenter and check the playlist for the SB3, it only shows the first song in the playlist (without any of the additional songs).

If I populate the playlist for the SB3 in SqueezeCenter using the "all songs" button, the playlist populates correctly and plays on the SB3 correctly.

The major downside to this is that I have 2 SB3s on the top floor of my home and the PC housing my media and running SC is in the basement.

Why won't choosing the "All Songs" option from the SB3 populate the playlist correctly in SC?

Is that any more clear?

I did select the "play other songs" option and it made no difference. :(

What are you pressing Play on? If I press Play on the words "All Songs" then I get what you expect, it queues up all the tracks and that appears both on the SB3 in Now Playing and on SC7. If, however, I press Play on the first track (i.e. I press right from All Songs and then press Play) it only plays that first track.

What I can't reproduce is the different playlists between SB3 and SC - my only guess here is that you're confusing the list of songs shown under All Songs and the actual Now Playing list? What do you see if you press Now Playing after Play?

I believe we have a winner... I do, indeed, scroll to the song title before pressing play. This would explain both the behavior of the SB3 and the result in SC7.

I will test this as soon as I get home, but I believe you have solved my dilema.

...and there you have it. User Error. By pressing play while "All Songs" is showing on the SB3 display, all songs, do indeed, play.

In my defense, this is somewhat inconsistent from a UI standpoint. When scrolling from "Music Library" to "Artist" to "Album" to the first song in the album list before pressing play does NOT simply play the first song, but rather the whole album.

Why make the behavior different in the "All Songs" function?

Regardless, the feature now works as I would expect by simply pressing play one step earlier than I had been doing in the past.
