i am new to Slim Devices.

is it possible to use SqueezeCenter for web-only playback. i do not yet have a Slim device, but i have installed SqueezeCenter on my PC thinking that i could stream my music using the web-based player. i am starting to think that this is impossible, but thought i would check.

also, exactly what devices can play music from the SqueezeCenter?

thanks,
Justin

Yes, you can use SqueezeCenter on your home PC and then access it from the web (once you've set up port forwarding and security as shown in the wiki (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/ConnectingRemotely)).

You have two options for playback:-

- On a remote PC, you can use SoftSqueeze or the upcoming SqueezePlay to access your library and play. This gives you the most control.

- Alternatively, you can use any web-enabled media device to tune into http://[yourserver]:9000/stream.mp3 and use the web interface to choose tracks to play.

it looks like i need to install a Java applet. i was hoping for a simple web interface with no installation (even if it is a small applet).

what is SqueezePlay that you mentioned? will it require installation?

Yes, SqueezePlay requires installation too (it's in Beta at the moment - take a look at the Developer forums for more info).

If you really want to avoid installing anything, how about using Windows Media Player or similar with the stream.mp3 approach?

You don't "need" to, you can use winamp or similar applications to read
from the stream.mp3 link
