is there a better way to get realaudio streaming on linux than
alienstream? Or am I needlessly put off by Peter's dire warnings?
Implementing this doesn't look like a five minute project :-)

There was a post to this list entitled "attempted hack to alienstream for
slimserver 5.1". I never tried it, but it could be part of the way there for you.

Also a post entitled:
"Summary-How to use Real Audio, Spinner, Winamp, and Shoutcast to Squeezebox"

there was also this perl script posted: rm2mp3proxy.pl, which uses vsound under
linux to handle real. run perldoc rm2mp3proxy.pl for some info.

hm, so much for quick :-) However, setting this up only took about an
hour, and I've now got all the trplayer/realpalyer infrastructure to use
AlienStream. Unfortunately rm2mp3proxy.pl isn't working for me -- It
spawns about 10 zombie shells and plays no music (this is with server
5.1.1). More troubleshooting later.

OK, so this is a plea for help. I want to be able to play
streaming internet radio stations on RealAudio format from
a linux server to my squeezebox.

I've read most of the threads and done lots of searching but
I'm not getting very far. I suspect most of it is due to my
lack of knowledge of Linux rather than anything else.

So, I'm trying rm2mp3proxy.pl route, but it has some dependencies
I can't get installed (server is RedHat 9):

I'm trying to install trplayer-1.2.0 from the rpm but it is
complaining about a failed dependency on libslang.so.1

My installation seems to come with slang-1.4.5-16, which seems
to include libslang-utf8.so.1 instead of libslang.so.1

I don't seem to be able to install an older version of slang
that does have libslang.so.1 (rpm says there's a newer version
already installed and I don't seem to be able to get a version
of slang compiled from the sources probably due to my ignorance).

Does anyone have trplayer working, and if so how?

Thanks,
Mark.
