I have my Duet connected to my Marantz SR8500 via coax spdif.
I am wondering why i can adjust volume with Duet since I am using DAC of Marantz..doesn't Dqueezebox send only digital to Marantz? how can it adjust volume?

By scaling the data being sent down the wire. You can disable the digital volume control in settings if you want.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I like to control volume by remote buy I am afraid that scaling data can get worse quality of data.
What do you think about?

I think it's a discussion I don't want to get into again :)

There's been a number of threads about this in the Audiophile forum. Put simply, yes the sound quality will be worse when you use the digital volume control at less than 100%. The question is how much worse, and whether you will be able to tell. The general consensus seems to be that for most people and most systems, it really makes no difference. I fall into that category and happily use it, even on my Transporter (gasp!).
