View Full Version : Music folder scan failing

Many apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere but a search of the forums using all the keywords I could think of yielded nothing.

I am seeing some strange new behavior on 7.2 of Slimserver - it is failing to scan my music folder. The scanner log is below. This is a read only hard disk audio server (Imerge S2000) which i have used for over a year as my music folder with no issues. I actually replicate this server to a drive on my network and tried to point Slimserver to that directory, with the same result, so it doesn't look, to my untrained eye, as if it is a permission problem. I may, of course, be missing something very obvious here.

This is SC 7.2 running under Vista Ultimate on a Dell C521.

Input appreciated!

Marc

Are you using some non-English Windows version?

Or is something with your installation otherwise broken? Or is your user name using non-latin characters?

Nope, bog standard (well, US...) English, nothing exotic apart from a few missed "u"'s and other American misspellings!

I changed the error logging to Debug for the scanner and got the following listing below. It seems to be looking in C:\Users\Marc\Music as opposed to my Z: drive for music.

Anyone have any idea why it is doing this? I don't know enough about the "prefs" files to start messing around with this stuff!

Thanks
Marc

I think there's an issue with your settings folder (as pointed out in my
previous post). It has a very odd name. Are you running SC as a service or
as an app?

As an app.

I agree with you something is screwy. On the Status screen it shows my Preferences folder to be c:/Documents and Settings/All Users/ which is surely a hangover frm my XP days, the folder no longer exists. Also my Favourites points to an old Slimserver directory, not a Squeezecenter one I can't see an option to change this so I am thinking an uninstall and full reinstall is the way to go.

I am sure I messed up the upgrade somehow somewhere but shouldn't this be 'resurrectable' by the layman without a reinstall?

Thanks for your help as ever Michael.

This might explain the somewhat odd name in the logs: Vista does "virtualize" some of the folders. No idea where they will end up.

If you are comfortable reading the Registry, could you please tell me what the "Common Appdata" and/or "ProgramData" values in
Local Machine/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell Folders
are set to?

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data

Is this the problem, pointing at a folder that doesn't exist? I am an administrator on this machine, but not logged on as Admin....if that is also any help.

I realise your role here isn't providing Windows support, but any help you feel able to offer would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks again

It it really doesn't exist, the sure, this is a problem. But we should understand why this can happen at all.

OK, I took my life in my hands and changed the directory entry to C:/Users/Public/Application Data and restarted SqueezeCentre. It took me through initial setup and is now, seemingly happily, scanning my shared drive for music.

I am not sure what else I have *&^%$d up by doing this but I will cross that bridge when I come to it and not trouble you with it.

Now back to trying to decipher your thread on the BBC Listen Again programmes in a seemingly vain attempt to get my 5 Live Breakfast programmes working again.....

Thanks for you help

Are you based in the UK? Then this post (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47760&page=2) should be all you need. If outside of the UK, I think you may have to wait for an update to AlienBBC (which won't happen until the BBC stop messing around with their radio formats/iPlayer).

I am English but based in the US. This is really odd. If you read above you will see I had a slightly screwed up installation. I had an old Slimserver directory where my favourites were (unbeknownst to me) and. sqeezecenter directory. Listen Again was working fine until yesterday when I 'cleaned up' my implementation. I have no idea where the links were pointing on the BBC site but all was well, now it isn't and I can't wake up to my 5 Live Breakfast show.

Any ideas? Please don't condemn me to a diet of American radio.....

Marc, I am having the exact same problem, same entries in the log file. Where did you make this change to prefs please ?

Thanks

Where abouts do you make this change -- I am having the exact same problem.

Thanks!
