I installed SC 7.2 22491 last night and initially all seemed to be working fine. However, after about 30 minutes of playing FLAC music files on my Transporter, I found that the Status and Playlist tabs stopped working and I got a message saying that the web page could not be found. However, this is an intermittent problem because if I leave the music playing and try selecting Status or Playlist again after a few minutes it works ok, then after a few minutes these Tabs fail to work again!!!!!!

The Home and Search tabs still work ok, and the music continutes to play without any problem.

Is there anything within the software that could cause this sort of problem?

I am running a PC with Windows Vista, with 4Gb of RAM and there is 355Gb of free disk space on drive C, which is where SC is installed. My FLAC music files are on a separate 750Gb hard drive, which I have been using for the past few years.
I only have the Alien BBC plug in loaded. No other plug ins have been installed. I uninstalled SC completely using the Windows Uninstall option in Control Panel, then deleted the SC folder in Program Files and then did a clean install of SC 7.2, but this has made no difference.

Could it be a problem with something like Disk Cache or some sort of software buffer filling up?

I get the problem when I run the web interface on my PC, but I ALSO get the problem when I run the web interface on mjy wireless Dell Axim PDA.
I am running the Handheld skin on the web interface.

My music database contains 2543 albums, 32405 songs and 5346 artists.

Would a forced reload work?

Do you see anything in the server.log file (Settings/Status) around the time when this happens?

Michael

what do you mean "a forced reload"? I have tried rebooting my PC but the same situation occurs again. As I said it appears to be an intermittent problem. There is no interuption to the music which continues to play perfectly.

Judging by those logs you're hitting the antivirus problem. You need to add an exception for *.myi files so they don't get scanned.

How do I do this with McAfee?

I don't know off the top of my head. Take a look at the help/manual - you're looking for how to add an exclusion or how to specify the extensions to be scanned.

I have discovered that this problem occurs once I select more than about 20 tracks in the current playlist.

If I clear the current playlist and start again with no tracks selected, it then works ok until the playlist contains about 20 tracks.

This seems rather strange. Are you sure this is an anti-virus problem?

Yup, this is the giveaway:

DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Can't create/write to file 'C:\Windows\TEMP\#sql_cc0_0.MYI'

It's saying it can't create a temp file, this is because of a conflict with the AV. I found this on their website which seems to indicate how to add an exclusion - you need one for *.myi

After doing some searching I have discovered that unfortunately McAfee Security Centre doesn't have the option to exclude individual file types. Which is why I was unable to find any option within the software to allow me do do this!!!!!
Great!!!!!!!!!!

What is my best option now? I have already paid for McAfee so do not really want to have to switch to another AV package and have to pay again!!!!!!!

If it were me, I'd:

* Complain to McAfee about them removing standard (and important) functionality from their product
* Ask for a refund
* Uninstall that hunk-o-junk
* Install something else - I use Nod32, but there are a number of good free choices if you don't want to spend more.

Here's a link to McAfee forum showing the reply I got!!!!!
http://community.mcafee.com/showthread.php?p=527968#post527968

"There is no such option in the McAfee home user's product suite.
We have suggested for that to be added again since it was removed from previous versions".

If I do uninstall McAfee is it best to get a "complete package" including both firewall and anti virus software? NOD32 appears to be just anti virus, does not mention a Firewall.
http://www.nod32.com.au/products/standard.html

What about Kaspersky Internet Security 2009? http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/kaspersky_internet_security

The people who make NOD32 do make a full suite with a firewall, no idea how it stacks up as I haven't used a software firewall in years (simply not needed imho). Kapersky have a very good reputation, you could also do a free solution with a combination of AVG and ZoneAlarm.
