View Full Version : Can't Browse by Music Folder after 7.1 update

I can't browse by Music Folder after the 7.1 update. Running OS X (10.4.11) PPC, updated from SS 7.0. All other browsing methods like Artist, Album, New Music, etc are working fine. On the SB2 menu, it says 'Loading Music Folder ...' and then times out. On the web interface, nothing happens when I click on music folder. Everything else appears to be working fine.

Here are the last few lines from the log:

P.S.... A restart of SS solves the problem for a while, and then it seems to return

I just noticed the same (or a similar) thing, and I'm quite frustrated. For me the Browse by Music Folder seems to work from the SqueezeCenter, but doesn't even show up as an option any more on the Squeezebox Controller remote. Anyone know how to get it back?

Nikhil - do you have a chance to find out what files/folder you might be browsing when you're encountering this issue?

Michael,

I couldn't browse anything when I tried the browse by Music Folder option. It would just say loading music folder, and then time out. However the problem has not repeated in the last 24 hours since I restarted the entire system. It would have been the first troubleshooting step to try on Windows, but it just didn't occur to me on the Mac. Anyways, perhaps the problem has sorted itself.

Not sure - I was just dealing with some Mac related bug which reported the same message as you did:

[08-08-08 07:04:54.0357] Slim::Networking::IO::Select::select (250) Error: Select task failed: spec is not a valid file specification at /Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Utils/Misc.pm line 416.

What kind of Mac are you running on?

Its a Mac mini G4 PPC 1.42 GHz with 1GB RAM running OS 10.4.11 with all the security patches (including the latest one from about week ago; perhaps that is a clue, because I applied that security update around the same time as I upgraded to SC 7.1)

I am having the same issue but from a Vista 64 box. All my data is a on a NAS which I can access from Vista just fine but SC 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3 jjst hangs on "music folder." Very frustrating and I may install an older version of SS. Any have any ideas what the issue could be as I have tried everything from diabling AV etc....

Thanks

Please give us some more details about your system, installation, log messages etc. Can you scan your music at all?

I have Vista 64 and unRAID as my NAS. I can map to unRAID fine form Vista and access the share with out issues. I have installed both 7.1 and 7.3 SC and set up the music directories accordingly, which is a mapped drive back to my unRAID NAS. The issue is I can not seem to access the "music folder" from SC, SC just hangs and eventually I will have to stop and restart SC. Is this a Vista issue or SC issue. As I said earlier I can access the share from Vista with out issues so I am thinking it is a SC issue. Also, do I need to wait until the scanning is complete as I have ~2TB of music... Any ideas?

Are you running SC as a service? If so you'll have to provide it with a
user who's allowed to access the NAS. And you'll have to use the UNC
instead of a mapped drive.

Michael thanks for the reply and have tried that as well. Vista, SC, and unRAID just does not play well...I am moving to FreeNAS and read about SlimNAS over on the FreeNAS forum, which I understand you developed. I am excited about this and will configure/install this weekend. What version of FreeNAS do you recommend to work well with SC 7.x?

Thanks

I don't see a reason whey they shouldn't work together.

You'll find this information in bold letters on http://www.herger.net/SlimNAS
