View Full Version : Running my network

I have a domestic network mostly wired, but with a Wireless access point which talks to the Squeezebox. The stats on here after running an analysis say that my signal strength is about 56 - 58%. I t has also said that the network is periodically congested.

Is that too low as I have been getting some stuttering. If so, any suggestions as to what to do to boost it?

Many thanks,

A. (newbie as you can tell!)

usual advice is to:
- make sure your wireless device is at the latest firmware revision
- choose a different wireless channel then the default, eg move from 6 to 11.

One of my squeezeboxes hovers around 50% signal strength; it will dip to around 40%. I have no problems playing both 192 VBR mp3 and FLAC files.

I relocated my WAP/router a couple of weeks ago to the basement and expected that this would present a problem in my bedroom on the 2nd floor. Not a single dropout.

Perhaps your issue is network congestion or interference on your wireless channel?

See http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/NetworkProblemsSecondGuideThat's a good guide, except it keeps talking about antennae. What do insects have to do with streaming audio? My router has two antennas. But no antennae. :)

It's been translated by an insect, they can't spell.

Hmm, interesting, the *proper* (slightly archaic) plural for antenna is antennae. But it seems the newer plural for the metallic/technological thingies is indeed 'antennas':

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=antenna (see the American Heritage Dictionary reference)

as opposed to 'antennae', which is still the plural used for insect appendages.

I learned something today. I would edit the wiki (it's a wiki, anyone can) but I don't know how after they migrated from the old wiki interface. I might give it a go today, in which case I'd have learned *two* things.

Maybe Mark Lanctot should file this as a Wiki *bug*?

Sorry Mark, I just couldn't resist. :)
