View Full Version : SqueezeBox Duet : No more sound after FW upgrade

2008-07-31, 15:30
Hi all,

I own a SqueezeBox Duet that was working fine for the past few weeks. Today I fired up my Duet controller and I saw a new firmware update which I installed. I installed yesterday on my PC the SqueezeCenter 7.1. After installing the latest firmware 2722 for the SqueezeBox Duet I attempted to play my tunes as usual but no sound was coming from the amp. I checked cables before looking at the screen of the remote : whatever track I play, the Duet Controller starts to play it for the very first 20 to 30 seconds and then suddenly the playback restarts from 0:00. In any case there's absolutely no sound on the amplifier. Same issue with web radios...

I tried a bunch of things to troubleshoot the issue : reset the Duet Controller (no go), reset the SqueezeBox receiver (no go), reinstall the Duet firmware (no go), upgrade to the latest SqueezeCenter 7.3 (no go), restart my router (no go).

I wonder if there's a way to revert to the old firmware ? Am I the only one on earth to experience this issue ? What can I do ?

Thanks !

Ok I tried to downgrade to version 7.01 of SqueezeCenter today and I did reinstall the firmware 2448 on the Duet Controller. Still no go :( I don't understand what's going on !

Playback starts and restarts and there's no sound emitted by the receiver to the amp... Streaming webradios doesn't work either.

Should I try something else ?

I experienced a similar problem with my Transporter, see the link and the solution to my problem, it may work for you?

Yep, I did see your thread. And I did reset the controller pressing "+" while powering it on. To no avail. I just tried switching wireless routers with no success.

However i'm not sure about the "rewrite xilinx" part of your thread.

Any message in the server log ?

Where can I see that ?

Ok I'm delving into the Wiki... Does something like that help :

Slim::Schema::Storage::throw_exception (70) Error: DBI Connection failed: DBI connect 'hostname=;port=9092;database=slimserver' ,'slimserver',...) failed: Can't connect to MySQL server on '' (10061) at C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~1\server\CPAN/DBIx/Class/Storage/DBI.pm line 652

and this as the end of the LOG :

Please help :)

Ok did some house-keeping. I uninstalled again SqueezeCenter 7.01 this time making sure I deleted the whole database. And reinstall 7.1. Log file now says just :

"[08-08-01 15:24:24.8304] Slim::Schema::init (161) Warning: Creating new database - empty database or database from 6.3.x found
[08-08-01 15:24:29.0141] main::checkDataSource (887) Warning: Schema updated or no tracks in the database, initiating scan.

[08-08-01 15:36:16.6829] Slim::Control::Commands::playlistcontrolCommand (1567) Begin Function

Still, audio appears to be played to restart from 0:00 after 30 seconds of playback while no sound can be heard from the amp. And of course this happens with all my tunes.

Check the usual security app - firewall, AV etc. Some security s/w needs re-authorisation if a new version is installed. Sometimes this may be caused by Windows caching - have you rebooted the PC ?

I did reboot the computer more than five times today I guess. And I made sure to disable my AV/firewall software. Despair :(

After having spent quite some time on this issue, it has just magically been fixed. Resetting one more time the receiver did the trick after deleting the database on the PC side. Everything seems to work fine now ! I'm not sure I can believe it myself :)

What format are your files ?

Are your players set to play normal or did you have custom settings ?

One user reported that he thought 7.1 update removed all custom settings from server directory (e.g. custom-types.conf) and also delete non standard binbaries from Bin directory.

Files I play with Squeezebox Duet are for the most part (like 95%) MP3. Players are set to normal playback, no custom settings. I'm still fairly novice when it comes to SqueezeBox so I'm just using regular settings (not added any plugins yet !).

Our posts crossed - my last post was made before I saw that the problem fixed itself. It sounds like a cache somewhere and the time limit on the cache expired.

Thanks for your help anyway ! :)
