The web interface exists to do what you mention; you might want to get a
cheap pocket PC with wireless interface and use that for more sophisticated
text entry, searching, etc.

The remote control functions do not include any ability to map individual
letters and numbers to the keys on a keyboard.

Has anyone tried using a wireless keyboard for text entry and/or as an
alternate remote for the Squeezebox? I have a Sony WebTV keyboard that I'd
like
to reprogram in order to make text entry for music searching easier and
faster,
especially for guests that might not be familiar with the remote. Maybe even

enable some single-keystroke shortcuts.

This is true, but if the wireless keyboard is the right frequency, then you can
turn on the d_ir debugging option to see the ir commands being recieved by the
plalyer. With some codework, you could edit the server to handle the keyboard
codes. To add server functions, etc, for all the keys would be a rather
cumbersome task, however.
