I have Slimserver 5.1.1 on my linux (suse 9.0) box. My
music files are on a Windows 2000 box. Samba server is
running on nix. I can browse and access the music
files over the network on the Windows box with no
problems. When I try to set up Slimserver I get the
"oops...not valid directory" message when it tries to
access the library at //myw2k/music. I'm new to unix
but I suspect this has something to do with
permissions. The Slimserver user as well as the local
user have accounts on the W2K box.

Thanks.

Slimserver doesn't know what SMB shares are, so if you tell it to look
at //myw2k/music, it'll look at /myw2k/music, and if that doesn't exist,
you'll get errors.

Mount the windows share with smbmount on the linux box. Ie

smbmount //server/share /mnt/share

and before you do that, make sure the mount point (/mnt/share) is world
readable. Then point slimserver at /mnt/share and all should be fine and
dandy.

one thing on permissions, it would be better to take the trouble to make
the directory group-writable by slimserver, or change the
saved-playlists entry in server settings to another directory. Otherwise
it will complain.
