View Full Version : Signal Strength 0%

I am having trouble getting my Squeezebox to access my Airport Extreme
base station. When I browsed through the "Current Setting" file, I
noticed the signal strength was at 0%. I moved the Squeezebox right in
front of the Airport antenna, same reading. This seems odd as the
Squeezebox correctly ID's my Airport bas station by name. (and yes, I
did screw the antenna onto the Squeezebox).

Any suggestions?

Two possibilities spring to mind:

2) The Wireless link in the Squeezebox is implemented by the
use of a PCMCIA card plugged into a socket on the board
inside the squeezebox. We have heard at least one case
where the card had become loose in the socket, and as a
result wasn't being seen by the Squeezebox.

I doubt this is the case, since I think that the wireless
options in the menus disappear if the card isn't seen...

1) I've seen this symptom with two WiFi systems when the
links aren't setup to match, i.e. same SSID, same WEP
settings and password. Even though there is a wireless
signal, if it's not what the receiver is expecting it
will show no signal, rather than signal but no connect.

I'm not sure if this is deliberate to avoid people seeing
networks they shouldn't know about and hence make hacking
harder, or if it is poor implementation.

Try turning WEP off and see if this works. If so then you
know it's WEP settings. If it doesn't check that the SSID
matches between the router and the squeezebox.

My bet would be that you're using WEP and your router
isn't set to "shared key" authentication. Use of anything
but shared key won't work with the squeezebox.

If this still doesn't work then it's something else, and I
suspect we'll need more details to help you out. Check the
above first.
