Hi - ah right I thought it seemed more like a feature. Just a thought, but
would it be possible to have the software automatically ramp down the gain
to zero when this happens over a short period to give a software "stop" (and
when you hit pause or stop), as if you are playing loud music, a sudden stop
is a bit disconcerting!

That's right, whenever you start synchronization, the players in that
group all restart on the current song.
