View Full Version : Scan in 7.01 doesn't capture "Artist"

Am I doing something wrong, or is the software just too flaky? I have scanned and rescanned (with "clear library" but I always just register only two artists for 10,000 some odd songs on over 1,000 albums.

I see some on this forum are retreating back to 6.5. I own the Squeezebox Duet. Will I have a problem if I uninstall back to the earlier version? Where does the "firmware update" fit in all of this?

The Receiver and Controller both require version 7.0+. Firmware won't make any difference as that's on the player.

If you want to post more details of the problems you're having someone may be able to help, or you could call support and get their advice.

Capturing artist tag from song is very basic functionality and it definitely works in any release. As radish suggested, post some more info about your system and tracks, we might be able to help.

Are you running both Ape tags and ID3v2.3 tags? It may be reading your Ape tags like for mp3gain and not the tags for the rest. I'd check that.

Wow I am impressed by the speed of the responses.

OK, what more information do I have to post? I am reasonably experienced but I don't understand the issue in the last post about the type of tag.

Wow I am impressed by the speed of the responses.

OK, what more information do I have to post? I am reasonably experienced but I don't understand the issue in the last post about the type of tag. Download a program called Mp3tag (google it) and load some of problem albums in it. Make sure in options that it's reading all the choices of tags. It will show you what tags are used and what type. If you have mixed tags Ape will usually be read first. I've seen many albums tagged with both APE tags and ID3v2.3 that won't show artist or much of anything. Get rid of the APE tags and all the info shows up. Mp3tag is free and it's a program you really, really want to get to know. Post back if you need help once you get it. This may not be be the problem but well worth a try. Can you give us your operating system, version of SC , basically how you are running everything. That way one of the smarter people around here might have an idea too. :)

All my tagging is done with MP3tag, files are all FLAC.

I've had a similar problem with 7.02.

0 artists except for 'various artists' and no its not my tags.

I started the thread with my problem but I solved it by uninstalling the software, and then re-installing it. The second time I was very careful to indicate exactly the iTunes Library folder, and I gave it a lot of time to scan through the library.

It appears to work now.
