Hello,

I did an install of the latest update (5.1.1) and now my "slimserver"
service in Windows XP Pro dies right after it is started. If I manually
restart (via "Services", or by launching Slimserver web interface), the
service dies in a matter of seconds. I checked the Application Event
Log, and saw this over and over:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details. The following information
is part of the event: 'x' outside of string in unpack at
/PerlApp/Slim/Music/Info.pm line 2249.

I opened the debug log, and saw a very similar error listed when the
slimserver service died:

" 'x' outside of string in unpack at /PerlApp/Slim/Music/Info.pm line
2249. "

After the service dies (a couple seconds always) I get a "The Page
Cannot Be Displayed" error in the browser.

The only change is the update from 5.1, which worked very well. Now I'm
kicking myself for updating.. next time I'll keep an earlier version of
the installer around. Does anyone have the "5.1" installer (not 5.1.1)?

I uninstalled and reinstalled twice, created a new XP user acct, but
nothing will keep it running. The service will occasionally load for a
couple seconds, but always dies on it's own, or if I begin to browse a
music folder, artist, etc..

Please help, it's awfully quiet in the house now!

Thank you,

Doug

I had the same problem with 5.0.1 and 5.1.0 but it was fixed after a a
few re-installs.
At the last install I first stopped the service before I started the
setup. It has been running OK for 24H now.
