The wireless connection to my squeezebox has suddenly weakened. It is a direct line of sight on the LinkSys 54G router and always hade better than 90% signal strength, it has suddenly dropped to circa 50% and breaks up so badly it is unusable. My laptop still picks up the router fine and therefore I am fairly sure the problem lies witht he Squeezebox. Has anyone seen this problem or got any idea how to fix it? Thanks

THere have been reported cases of the WiFi antenna or the PC card
getting loose inside the SB. Open it up and reseat things.

It also may be that a neighbor has just added their own WiFi and there
is radio conflict. You can try changing the channel on the WRT54G to
avoid the neighbor.

If neither of these help, you may want to look into Tomato or DD-WRT.
Its a bit harder to use these with the 54G (rather than the 54GL) but it
can be done.

Tomato works with the 54g hardware v1-v4 with no problems. I'm running it on a v4 at home. It will not work on hardware v5 or higher.

The wrt54gl is actually identical to the wrt54g v4. They brought it out after they released the wrt54g v5 and everyone was asking for the old HW versions so they could use open source firmware.

Thanks for this, I have changed channel and got it back to 80%. It is still breaking up badly but I am going in the right direction. Next I will try the reset. Thanks again for your help.
