We're looking into a new automated build system to replace the current (and massive) set of shell scripts that we've got here. The system that looks most promising so far is Parabuild by Viewtier software in Mountain View. We've set the system up for about a third of our nightly builds and it looks like its working pretty well so far.

This system is going to allow us to much more closely monitor our builds and the quality of our software by giving us a dashboard view of all of our builds and their progress. Additionally, it will run non-stop builds all day long every time a new piece of code is checked in ... these builds will not be published, but are done just to make sure that a code-checkin doesn't break our build process. Down the line we'll incorporate automated testing against these builds as well.

Although our build system in the past has been 'kept out of sight,' we do not want to continue that going forward, so we're going to open the system up in a Read-Only mode to the development community. You guys will be able to check out our builds and see if your changes have had any adverse affects to the build process itself. When builds fail, our team will be notified ... as well as the 'offending checkin' author.

You can reach this system at: https://builds.slimdevices.com:8080/ as an anonymous user. You will not be able to create an account, nor do you need one for any of the read-only features.

SSL certs are just a waste of money. ;) Every time I drive by the
Verisign building in Mountain View I want to throw rocks.

So we're definitely having a few implementation bugs with the system. Sorry for any interruptions in your nightly downloads of our latest software. Whenever the builds fail in the middle of the night, give me a few hours and I'll get them solved in the morning. Promise!
