I want to thank everyone that responded for their advice. After reading and
reading (and more reading) I have figured out that the best bet to get some
of these plugins to work is to simply run the perl version of slimserver. I
have installed Firedaemon to automatically launch slimserver.pl at boot time
as a service, and this has allowed many more plugins to work. One of the
biggest advantages to this that I have seen so far is that Firedaemon will
monitor the service, and if it crashes for whatever reason, slimserver.pl
will be restarted promptly. (This has happened a few times using the
shoutcast plugin)

Thanks again for everyones help.
