I've already gone down the path of uninstalling and installing the most
current build, but to no avail. In general I am not saving playlists but am
generating them on the fly as I browse music etc. To me this reaks of a
Windows related issue, but I can't prove it.

Darmit. I had such high hopes for this software.

Did you make sure that the directories were empty?
I had a similar problem, and I found that there is a history playlist
that it automatically created. I had some very bad files in my tree,
and the history entries were therefor corrupt. Kept all sorts
of things from working.

Killing the directory, sprinkling garlic on them, etc. worked great.

if not, it sure smells like a protection problem. Playlists are
just files, they look just like .m3u files to my untrained eyeballs.
