I'm afraid your post does not appear to make much sense, to me anyway (no offence)

Typing http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 into Winamp (for example) will cause Winamp to look on the local machine for an mp3 stream on port 9000.

If you have SqueezeCenter running on a machine with an IP address of nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn, you can access the mp3 stream on it from another computer by opening http://nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn:9000/stream.mp3 in your media player.

Perhaps if you post exactly what it is you are trying to achieve it may be possible to provide you with a better answer.

At the moment, I am not exactly sure what you are asking :-)

Sorry for not being clear and no offence taken....

on the web browser when access the slimserver if no player is found, I can download the player, or click on the stream.mp3..

Your player was not found.

If you own a Squeezebox or Transporter:

Make sure that your player is plugged in and its networking settings are correct. Click the Refresh button once your player is connected.
If you do not own a Squeezebox or Transporter:

You can listen to your music library using SoftSqueeze, a software version of Squeezebox.
You can use MP3 player software (such as WinAmp or iTunes) to listen to your music library with SqueezeCenter by connecting to this URL: http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3

I would like to be able to change the http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 to for example, so no matter what machine I'm on, I don't have to manually put in the info into winamp...

I know there is a settings.txt file, that appears to contain the info, but I'm worried if I mess around with this, will it muck it all up?

I took the plunge and searched/replaced using WordPad all the occurances, and it seemed to work.....

I have just fired up SqueezeCenter and I can now see what you mean :-)

Interestingly enough the link to the SoftSqueeze download knows which computer and port SqueezeCenter is running on and would work from any machine if clicked on, but the link to the stream.mp3 does not and assumes localhost:9000.

Personally I would say that is a minor bug.

I don't know enough about the internal workings of SqueezeCenter to say whether or not changing the settings.txt is the going to cause any issues. Perhaps someone who knows more than I do will add their thoughts :-)

Glad to hear you got it working though.
