Anyone know of any good speakers that I can connect directly to a squeezebox classic? I was interested in Intimus 422-LR ( http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/Intimus-422-LR-Satellite-Speaker,7,20,6.aspx ), but I'm pretty sure they need to be hooked up via an amplifier. :-(

I'm planning on moving mine to another room and don't want to buy an extra receiver/amplifier for the system.

Do a search in this forum on powered speakers, you'll find a lot of great information. There are a number of fans of the audioengine 2 and 5.

Here's a new powered monitor from Mackie, in roughly the same price range. I haven't heard these but Mackie has a good reputation:

I am using the Audioengine 2 while out of the country on a long term project. Works great and a good value.

Goto a Proaudio store with a ipod or similar and test some speakers.

You're bound to find something you like in your required price range

I really, really, love my Mackie HR828s. They cost a bit over a grand, but the sound is wonderful.

They are also fairly ugly, they are designed for recording studio, so they are black. No nice wood finish.

They might be over your budget, but as mentioned up thread, you should take an iPod to Guitar Center or other local pro-audio store, and listen to them.

Anyone tried Meridian DSP5200's? I've been considering these and there are few dealers in my area to listen to them.

The PMC AML1's are suposed to rock your world, and if they don't the price will!

Highly recommended, I nearly bought a pair myself.

Ask questions on the board below if need further information.
