View Full Version : Firmware v8, SPDIF, sound quality

Am I dreaming? I just switched to today's build (from the 17th's) and
updated the SB firmware to v8 and...

Playing FLACs (-> .wav) thorugh the coax SPDIF through my P-3A is like the
first time I hooked up the DAC to my CD player - all the detail and depth is
back. Please someone tell me that something has changed in the SPDIF output
and that the improvement isn't due to the snakeoil I rubbed into the cables.

Who do I thank?

(The only negative, in a sea of positives, with the SB is that I can't FF or
RW my FLAC songs.)

Hi Patrick,

there have been some fixes recently on the S-PDIF. Some to
fix the frequency of the signals (to 44.1kHz from 44.19kHz),
making sure the S-PDIF outputs a zero signal between tracks,
and over the weekend fixing some issue with the "validiy bit"
of the data transfer.

As a result the latest Firmware should make a noticeable
difference on some DAC's - looking forward to finding out next
week.

I's good to hear that the sound quality is much better through
an external DAC.

Perhaps this means that Grahams Linn CD12 is on borrowed time :-)

I've still only had an offer of #10!
