Hi. I am running slimsever 5.1 on Redhat Linux Fedora 1. I installed in on a new computer I made as a server about 10 days ago. I used webmin to install slimsever the 1st day. It's been working very good for the last 10 days. But just yesterday. I put a CD's worth of MP3 songs in the music folder and told slimsever to rescane. It came back page can not be displayed. I can't get to in any more by going to //myserver4:9000 it just says page can't be displayed. I used webmin to uninstall it and reinstall it again. But that did not help. If I do it fast go to //myserver4:9000 it will come up but any other thing will come back page can't be displayed. In webmin I got this log:

Feb 27 06:30:12 localhost pidof[11831]: can't read sid for pid 11821
Feb 27 06:30:36 localhost su(pam_unix)[11989]: session opened for user slimserver by (uid=0)
Feb 27 06:30:38 localhost su(pam_unix)[11989]: session closed for user slimserver
Feb 27 06:30:38 localhost slimserver: slimserver.pl startup succeeded
Feb 27 06:30:42 localhost su(pam_unix)[12102]: session opened for user slimserver by (uid=0)
Feb 27 06:30:46 localhost su(pam_unix)[12102]: session closed for user slimserver
Feb 27 06:30:46 localhost slimserver: slimserver.pl startup succeeded

It does this over and over every time I try to start it using webmin to start it in System, Bootup and Shutdown.

I don't know what went wrong. It was working very good for the past 10 days. Can any one help?

O I been keeping Fedora up2date with up2date -u. I just know it was wroking good know it's not.

Raymond,

Perhaps there's something in the files that causes the SlimServer to
exit. Try moving the new files aside and see if it works again. Then
try to find the file or files that are causing the problem by process
of elimination. Let us know what you find...

Thanks,

dean

How can there be something in the files when I uninstalled in all and
reinstalled it?

This would be to hard to do. I don't know what files to remove and try
again. It has lots of files and would take a lot of time.

It could be the new MP3's that you added. Also, rather than starting and
stopping the server from webmin (it obscures so much), can you try running
slimserver.pl from a terminal?

1) stop the server
2) open xterm, telnet, or console
3) type:
cd /usr/local/slimserver
4) then type:
slimserver.pl --d_info

the server should start, and report information on the music scan as it goes.
If it crashes at any point, you should see the problem if its related to the mp3
files. If it works, then it could be an issue with the startup script that
webmin is using. Some change in the Fedora update might give it problems.

Yes. It's working now. I must of uninstalled it 4 times. But this time it
has a new RPM at http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest/ and I
installed it and wow it's working. Just before scaning the music folder. I
called slimdevices on the phone. I said I try the scan and that's were it
can't be displayed. But this time it did work. he said the error they fixed
was some WMA files. I don't think I have any WMA files just mp3's but wow it
works. There just must of been some error in the older RPM. I am happy it's
working. I looked for the new songs I put in the music folder and they are
there.
