Hi (This is really for Michael H) - Is there any plan to make the Bio and
Album Review Plugin info display on the Duet hand held? I would be very
cool feature.

I understand that MusicIP mixes may be available in 7.1. It would be great
if Bio and album review were also avialable in that release! Thanks,
Charles

It is indeed ;-). I've been asked not to announce it. But if you accidentally find it in the plugins folder, then feel free to use it. But beware: it's still in a rough state right now.

Hmm... don't you see a jive subfolder?

This should work, but I didn't try myself. Create a folder called Plugins in the plugins directory and a folder called Biography in that folder. Copy install.xml and the contents of the jive directory to that directory. Restart SC and install as per these instructions.

http://mwiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezePlay_Applets

Alternative method (what I did) enable remote login on the controller and use secure copy (scp) to copy the contents of the jive directory to /usr/share/jive/applets and reboot.

The plugins show up in the Extras menu on the SBC.

Thansk..but did not have much luck with the first method. I created a
Plugins directory under the Plugins directory. In that directory I created
another directory called biogrpahy. In that there are just 2 files:
install.xml (from the original Bio direcory) and the single 'strings' file
from the jive folder (i did not copy the acutal folder, just its
contents). Restarted the server, nopthing shows up in the applet installer
on the controller. Looked around the SC settings in the web interface, did
not see anything....

On the second mehtod, what actual files should I put in the
/usr/share/jive/applets folder? just the 'strings' file from the jive
folder? that does not seem right....i did install putty and the scp program
and can login to the controller..not that i am familillar with trhese
tools, but i shoudl be able to figure that part out. just need to know
what files need to go in there. thanks very much. Charles

In the jive directory you should see the Biography directory. In that directory there should be a few files. At least strings.txt and some files ending in .lua. Copy that Biography directory with those files to /usr/share/jive/applets so you get /usr/share/jive/applets/Biography/ with the strings and lua files.

OK, I realise the directions are not that good, so I'll try again.

1. Get Biography and AlbumReview from the top of this page:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43713&highlight=biography&page=4

Save and unzip to desktop. This should create a directory called AlbumReview on the desktop, where in particular the following directory hierarchy should exist:

DESKTOP/AlbumReview/jive/AlbumReview

In the last, or deepest, AlbumReview directory you should see:

AlbumReviewApplet.lua AlbumReviewMeta.lua strings.txt

This is the directory and contents you need to copy to /usr/share/jive/applets.

2. Get pscp.exe from:

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

and save pscp.exe to desktop.

3. Open cmd.exe, the MS command line.

4. Change directory in the command line so desktop is the current directory. E.g. if you write 'dir' you should see the top level of the files you've unzipped.

5. I'm asssuming you know your controllers IP, and I'll call it SBC-IP. In the command line write:

pscp.exe -r AlbumReview/jive/AlbumReview root@SBC-IP:/usr/share/jive/applets/

You should get prompted for the SBC password, 1234 by default. The -r option means recursively, i.e. the last AlbumReview directory including its contents. root@SBC-IP means that the secure copy is being done by the root SBC user. I'm not 100% sure the syntax is correct, this is how it works in Linux. If you get errors try pscp.exe -h or pscp.exe -? to access the help for pscp.

6. Optional. Log into your SBC using putty and check that the AlbumReview with its contents is in fact in /usr/share/jive/applets/. E.g. you should see /usr/share/jive/applets/AlbumReview/AlbumReviewMeta.lua along with the other two files mentioned above.

7. Restart the SBC. AlbumReview should now appear under Extras.

The procedure for Biography is similar. Hope you can get it to work. It is a REALLY nice application perfect for the SBC.

bhaagensen,

Thanks for those instrucitons. I am sure they will work. My problem now
is getting the right files - when i download the files from the link you
provided I get 'not a valid archive' with winzip and a different error with
winrar. the jive folder on michael's site only has the strings file in
it. If you could send them to me, my gmail address is
shaboyi (AT) gmail (DOT) comor let me know how else i may get them.

i have been a big fan of these plugins for years and would love to get them
to work on the controller! thanks again.

Strange, I've never had problems with those files. Anyway, I unzipped and zipped them again and sent you an email. Hope they work.

Bjorn,

thanks for the instructions and files. I got the directory and its files
(AlbumReviewApplet.lua, AlbumReviewMeta.lua and strings.txt) copied and
they show up when i use putty to navigate to the directory (
/usr/share/jive/applets/AlbumrRview) and list the files using ls. Also both
AlbumReview and Biogrpahy show up under Extras. They just don't work. When
I click on AlbumReview nothing happens; with Biogrpahy it goes to a blank
screen.

I checked to make sure there was content available via the SC web interface
for the currently playing song for both. I also checked to make sure that i
was connecting to other services from the controller (like the RSS feeds).

One note for the pscp command under windows: you must specify -scp otherwise
it defaults to using -sftp which errors out.

Anything you can think of that I may be doing wrong? Do I need to do
something in the web interface settings (I looked around and did not see
anything obvious) Thanks for all your trouble! Charles

Please note that the interface is very crude. I've only spent a few hours, trying to get it work. But it would still need a lot of refinement. Please note that what you see might be just the "waiting" screen. Just leave it for a few seconds. If all goes well it should update once it's found all the data on allmusic.com.

On the Controller the Biography page is entirely blank for me too (haven't checked the web interface). However if I wait for a while the Album Review page loads.

I'm just curious, how long did you have to wait for the AlbumReview plugin to work? I have waited up to 5 minutes, and there wasn't any activity. However, when using the Biography plugin everything is working.

AlbumReview shows up on the controller's menu. I have tripled checked the files, their locations and deleted the plugin-data.yaml file many times. Still no luck. I'm using SqueezeCenter 7.0.1 on Windows XP and installed the Albumeview and Biography plugin's manually on the controller using Pscp. After recognising that this didn't work I deleted these files and then re-installed using WinSCP. AlbumReview still didn't work, but Biography does.

Any suggestions to get the AlbumReview plugin to work on the controller will be appreciated.
TIA

You mean on the Controller? If you're using the latest version, you should see them in the track information menus. Doesn't this work for you? What version (SC, plugins)?

Michael,

I've been meaning to report a small problem in Biography on the SBC (3rd party stuff ain't bugzilla-material?). The issue is that it is not possible to get, what I assume should be, the fullscreen view of artist photos. I can only get to the thumbnail list. Clicking on the thumbnails results in the following in /var/log/messages:

Oct 13 22:20:57 SqueezeboxController user.err jive: (RequestHttp.lua:67) - Response sink:/usr/share/jive/jive/slim/SlimServer.lua:801: attempt to concatenate local 'iconId' (a nil value) stack traceback: /usr/share/jive/jive/utils/coxpcall.lua:28: in function </usr/share/jive/jiv

Ubuntu Linux
Version: 7.3 - 23520 @ Sat Oct 11 03:09:14 PDT 2008
Jive-7.2r3080

Anyway, these two plugins alone makes the controller about 905% more useful :) Oh, and with the lyrics applet we are talking >1000%...

You'll need 3086 or later to display them. I've been using a locally
patched version for a long time. We almost forgot to merge it into the
repository... There will soon be a minor update which fixes a layout issue
with very recent firmware & SC versions.
