Hi All

I have a couple odd issues playing ogg files that I hope someone can help me with.
I'm running WinXP Pro SP1 on a 1.5GHz pc, 512M RAM. I've got about 2200 music files
(mp3, ogg & wav) on an external Iomega 80GB HD, 7200 RPM, connected to a FireWire card.
The card also has an Ethernet port that is connected to my Squeezebox (wired). This card / HD
combination is dedicated to music only, and performs no other function.

Odd Thing 1: When I boot up, SlimSvc starts automatically, but the HD starts thrashing horribly,
and does some serious I/O for a full 20-30 minutes, as if its reading the contents of the HD files
byte-for-byte (about 45 GB worth at present). If I try to play anything during this time, I get dropouts
due to buffer underrun. After said 20-30 minutes, disk I/O drops to normal and mp3's and wav's play
perfectly.

Odd Thing 2: When I play an ogg, a DOS window pops up, with nothing in it. The window title is the
fully-qualified path to oggdec (1.0.1). The ogg file plays fine, but the window is bothersome. since it
comes up on top of everything, and does so for each song in the playlist.

Has anyone run into anything like this?

Help is appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

During that time slimserver's reading your MP3 files to create the track
list. With the latest releases (> v5.1) you can store that information on
your server which will speed up the initial loading.

Slimserver's running oggdec and lame to transform your ogg files on the
fly to MP3. As these are command line tools they are run in a "DOS" window.
