Can someone please help!! When using my computer(windows / xp), sometimes an annoying advertisement or spam or whatever it is will start to play in the background. It drives me nuts!! I would close or X it out, but i can't find it anywhere?? Control/alt/del shows nothing 'running', I close everything else out, and it is still playing! The most recent ad that keeps coming on is some joke or parody about Hillary Clinton. Sometimes i will hear a loud door 'open', then the ad starts, what is this?? The best fix is to just restart the computer, and that will take care of it for a while, until the next ad starts. More info:

Securtiy and internet settings set to 'default'
qwest dsl modem w/ linksys router wrt54g
Logitech duet w/ wired ethernet to receiver
2nd computer on 'wired' ethernet from linksys router

thank you

Oh.. ouch..

3 options come to mind:
* Spybot Search and Destroy
* Adaware
* Ubuntu - my personal top recommendation ;-)

Oh yea, when you click on task manager (C-A-D), are you looking at running programs, or processes. Running programs is not a complete list at all. The full process list is hard to navigate if you don't know what stuff is. There are ways to hide such things from the process list. :-(

Reinstall windows.
Stop using Internet Explorer & Outlook.
Don't visit shady sites.
Don't post off topic messages on audio boards.
This would only be on topic if the ads came out of your squeezebox.

Thanks Peter. Peter, Peter, sorry to offend you with my question on the 'wrong' board. Actually, i was having a problem related to Squeezebox. When i listened to it on the computer, i was getting some annoying audio from somewhere... Just trying to get a little help from somebody on this forum. That's why this forum is so great. I just laugh when people respond like you did, over something so trivial. Get a life.... and i'll keep my windows / IE. Thanks

I have closed this thread because it is off-topic. You have a Windows virus - this unrelated to your Squeezebox.
