I don't know the first thing about perl, so, unless it is the only way to do
it I'd rather find another way.

It'd prolly be easier to interface the Access database with Perl. I know
that's not what you wanted to hear, but...

You might find it easier to to use the HTTP interface from VBA using
HTTPSessionRequest or some similar object.
