Hi, Classic FM has closed its all day Jazz station on DAB in the UK.
They now urge us all to listen online as a solution.

I would love to be able to stream this on my Squeezebox3 V7 Windows XP.

Below is their reply to my Email.

(The documentation from the squeezebox website states that it is compatible with asx files (what we use as a pointer to the stream) so it should be able to work.

There could be a few causes:
Maybe the url being used is incorrect. (Should be http://mediaweb.musicradio.com/playlist.asx?streamid=2)

The network config on your side may be incorrect - a google search comes up with a few people who have had problems setting up the wireless authentication etc on their home network.
There are a few different versions of the squeezebox, you may be using an earlier model that isnt compatible with the stream.

If you can stream classic fm on their computer but not the squeezebox, then you should probably contact the squeezebox support)

I cannot get this Url to work.
Are there any Great minds out there, or even Jazz lovers who can help?

FYI,I Have ALien BBC working, also Mplayer and Lame

Thanks, Chris :)

It's very sad to see theJazz closing down. It was a wonderful radio station.
I've been using mms://mediasrv-sov.musicradio.com/Jazz
If I understand correctly, they will shut down online streaming as well on March 31st.

They have a new online Jazz radio stream linked from
http://www.classicfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=528997

I toyed with it a bit, but unfortunately it requires authentication and seems to stream in DRM'd WMA so it is not going to work with Squeeze boxes.

Blocking radio stations to streaming hardware seems to be a trend recently.

From their Email to me, they seem to think it will work.

If they want to maximise their advertising revenue, ie Listners, they better unblock it otherwise, I for one wont be listening, its just not conveniant enough online only. I have more to do with my life.

I hope they work with us on this.

Cheers, Chris :)

I would recommend finding the url from the Radiofeeds website http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/. They have two listed.

Or of course using the equally wonderful plugin http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/squeeze.asp :)

This url works OK for me at the moment, but today is the last day before TheJazz switches to "My Classic FM" which at the moment can only be listened to through an IE browser.

Anyone know any other way to get The Jazz after today?

theJazz RIP

Fortunately there is no shortage of Jazz on internet radio, but I did like theJazz, and will miss it. I don't see me listening much using a PC and IE.

The URL mms://mediasrv-sov.musicradio.com/jazz is still working OK for me April 1st.

I have the http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/squeeze.asp plugin, it's well worth installing.

It does for me also - despite annoncements that theJazz would stop broadcasting at end of March. Keep listening as long as we can - it's a bonus.

I Have the radiofeeds plugin but I cant get it to actualy stream anything except BBC Stations.
The BBC Should take over the role thejazz held IMHO.

Any help gratefully recieved. RIP "TheJazz"

Cheers, Chris :)

OK, I have it fixed now.

I had to set Mp3 to Proxied and WMA native to disabled. (In Squeezecenter settings).
This is a work round due to me having a USB Modem.

I Have to have computer on and cannot use Squeezenetwork.

The Jazz and Planet rock work on "Radiofeeds Uk and ireland" (recomended)
BBC Podcasts work a treat on Alien BBC.

Good Luck, Chris :)

For those missing theJazz, you can plug this into your favorites:
http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/thejazz.m3u

Please don't spread this address around.

Since the main theJazz link is now working again, I've removed the mp3 link.
