I've just upgraded my slimserver to 5.1 but I'm left wondering if I should
update firmware as well. As an owner of the slimp3 instead of the
squeezebox I could not find out if the 'squeezebox.bin' works on the slimp3
as well (and I dare not try it with the risk of it rendering it useless).
My current firmware is 2.2 so it may not be an issue at all, but I still
would like to know if the firmware of the slimp3 will be maintained.

Dean has stated this before (paraphrased): Slimp3 support will continue.

The expectation was that 2.2 was the last needed for slimp3, but there is a v2.3
coming with SlimServer 5.1.1 which fixes an issue with ethernet collisions. The
feature set of Slimp3 is at its limit, but support for the slimp3 and its
firmware will continue based on the need for fixes.
